Description

Green for a deer, / And green for me!... Gold for a bee, / And gold for me!

Preschoolers will explore bright colors, healthy foods, and a variety of adorable animals in this multilayered Big, Little Concepts book. Just like the endearing animals around the world, we eat greens, reds, and blues too! Bunny Loves Beans explores the wonderfully similar and different food that preschoolers and animals both eat.

This fun book serves as a great introduction to fruits and vegetables, and the upbeat language paired with the adorable photographs are sure to encourage your little one to eat their fruits and vegetables! By the end of this book, preschoolers’ will love to eat their greens, yellows, blues, and even pinks with this adorable photographic book!

The rhythmic text is perfect for an energetic read-aloud, and the repetitive language will boost your preschoolers’ word recognition.

Jane Whittingham, author of the 2023 Texas 2×2 Reading List Selection, Bear has a Belly, once again channels her expertise into a new celebration of active preschooler fun. The chant-along text supports pattern recognition for language learning and reading readiness, and a closing spread of enriching age-appropriate activities invite further exploration and learning. This book’s Toddler Tough format with a padded cover, rounded corners, and extra-heavy pages makes it a sturdy choice for endless reading fun!

About the author

Jane Whittingham is a librarian from Burnaby, British Columbia, and earned her Masters of Library and Information Sciences at UBC with an emphasis on children's librarianship and literature. Much like the adventurous main characters in her fiction picture books, Wild One, A Good Day for Ducks, and Queenie Quail Can’t Keep Up, Jane loves to explore. And much like the children photographed in her nonfiction picture book Animals Move, she loves a lively story time!

Editorial Reviews

Praise for Bunny Loves Beans

49th Shelf Spring 2024 “Most Anticipated Books for Young Readers” Selection

“A lip-smacking exploration of foods and colors. What’s not to love? Adorable kids and cuddly animals eat their favorite, super-healthy foods—and teach readers about colors along the way. What role modeling! What savory, crunchy deliciousness! What yummy learning opportunities!...A treat for eyes and palates. Kids will want to return to this and eat healthy, too.”Kirkus Reviews

“Wittingham’s rhyming verse falls into an easy, enjoyable, and repetitive reading pattern that lends itself to an interactive story hour....A diverse group of children next to a variety of animals all enjoying vibrant fruits and vegetables illustrates how humans and animals eat many of the same foods; simultaneously, the pages introduce colors and wholesome eating. A playful concept book that will have toddlers and preschoolers reaching for fruits and vegetables.”School Library Journal

“Uber-cutie....shows how animals and young children enjoy the same food. So come for the sweet little fluffy things. Stay for the healthy eating messaging.”Fuse 8, School Library Journal

Bunny Loves Beans is another sweet title for our youngest readers...this time featuring animals and the colourful food they enjoy....The attractive images and catchy text are certain to pique the interest of even the most discerning eaters among us.”CM Magazine
