Description

This is a collection of short stories and poems by the author of one of Newfoundland's best-known songs "Let Me Fish off Cape St. Mary's". The stories were previously published in 1986, and have been edited for this release. Several of the stories deal with experiences Mr. Kelland had in his early days as a seaman and later as a police officer. The rest are stories he heard over a period of many years. The poems are mostly of the humorous "tongue in cheek" variety, and are taken from his earlier book of poetry and song, Bow Waves.

About the author

Otto Kelland is best known for his hauntingly beautiful song, &quotLet Me Fish off Cape St. Mary’s&quot, which has become so widely known that there are those who consider it to be a traditional folk song of Newfoundland. However, Mr. Kelland passed away in July 2004 at his home in Flatrock, Newfoundland. He has been a seaman and a peace officer, and at the time of his retirement was Superintendent of H.M. Penitentiary in St. John’s.
