Description
ONE OF THE GUARDIAN'S BEST GRAPHIC NOVELS OF 2014!
Ever wanted to know how to be awarded the Best Dad in the Whole World? Guy Delisle has all the answers for you in these lighthearted, entertaining tales of parental mishaps and practical jokes gone wrong. Whether he's helping remove a pesky, wobbly, but not quite loose tooth or trying to win at hide-and-seek, his antics will resonate with every parent who has wanted to give a sarcastic answer to a funny question from their kid.
Even More Bad Parenting Advice marks Delisle's second foray into the world of offering bad advice to parents, and a second opportunity to express the minor frustrations and many joys of parenting. His skillful hand at illustration and ironic way with words, which helped to popularize his travelogues about daily life in faraway places, are just as much the stars here as he or his children are. His sense of comic timing shines through in these simply told stories; with their lively flow, a change in facial expression or a few words can serve as the punch line. Even More Bad Parenting Advice celebrates the reality that parenting isn't all first steps and gold-starred report cards; it's stinky diapers and never-ending drives to the grocery store, too.
About the authors
Helge Dascher has for 25 years translated texts with a dynamic relationship to images. A background in art history and literature has grounded her translation of over sixty graphic novels, many by artists who have broadened the medium's storytelling range. Her translations included acclaimed titles such as Julie Delporte's This Woman's Work (co-translated with Aleshia Jensen, Drawn and Quarterly, 2019), Sophie Bédard's Lonely Boys (co-translated with Robin Lang, Pow Pow Press, 2020) and Michel Rabagliati's "Paul" books (Drawn and Quarterly, Conundrum). She also translates exhibitions, digital stories, and films, most recently Theodor Ushev's The Physics of Sorrow (with Karen Houle, NFB, 2019). A Montrealer, she works from French and German to English.
Editorial Reviews
Even More Bad Parenting Advice . . . does what it says on the tin, sending up Delisle's inadequacies as a father in a series of beady vignettes." - The Guardian Best Graphic Novels of 2014
"Guy Delisle brings the many funny, heartwarming, profound and sometimes downright surreal moments of parenting to life in [ Even More Bad Parenting Advice ], this second comic treatise on raising children. Delisle's slightly neurotic tendencies come through to hilarious effect, from getting into a long-winded and totally inappropriate conversation about night-crawling psychopaths to ruminating on the dangers of pinatas." - CBC Books Holiday Gift Guide
" Even More Bad Parenting Advice is a great read for anyone who had that father or is that father. The stories are quick, yet well paced with moments of tension built through repeated cartoons. The jokes are sly and subtle so that they come alive more and more with every read, making the book something readers will pick up again and again for a smile." - Blogcritics
