Description

For centuries, the land and sea have forged the people of this vast land known as Newfoundland and Labrador. From the earliest inhabitants ten thousand years ago to the most recent generation of European descendants, the table fare has primarily evolved from what was readily available. The food of this easternmost province reflects the land and the people who live on it: hearty, solid, and down-to-earth, and Wilson has managed to marry the two marvellously with revealing imagery. The twenty-three landscape photographs invoke a sense of place and tantalize the palate with a full spectrum. More than twenty-five recipes, several with accompanying photographs, whet the appetite and let us revel. This is a unique recipe book bound to complement the coffee table or kitchen, and is as colourful as the people who inspired it.

About the author

Dale Wilson was born in 1958 in Amherst, Nova Scotia. He was reared on his family farm in the rural community of River Hebert. He was active in the Army Cadets by the age of twelve and joined the Canadian Armed Forces at fifteen years by sneaking in. He sailed with the Canadian Navy for fifteen years and received several accolades including the CD medal, awarded by Government of Canada, and the Research Commendation, awarded by Commander Canadian Fleet (Admiralty). He is self-taught as a photographer and first took an interest in the media in 1988. In 1990 he resigned from the military to pursue a career as a freelance photographer. He joined Photo Life as a contributing editor in 1992 and has written in excess of forty photography-based articles for a variety of trade magazines. In 1994 he received a contract as a contributing artist with Masterfile, the premier stock photo agency in Canada and a major force in the international marketplace. His stock imagery regularly appears in advertising media globally. He is sponsored by Fuji Photo Film Canada Inc. as a featured lecturer, and he is a keynote speaker with Creative Light Photography Seminars. Dale Wilson currently lives in the Halifax suburb of Eastern Passage with his wife and two sons.
