The story begins in China at the turn of the 20th century and follows the life of a servant girl who longs to bring her mother and brother to join her in the New World. The exquisite and highly authentic illustrations were meticulously researched by Grace Lin.

About the authors

Paul Yee is one of Canada's finest writers for children. He was raised in Vancouver and has worked in the archives at the Vancouver Museum. He won the Governor General's Literary Award for Children's Literature for Ghost Train. He now lives in Toronto.
