Description

Social Control offers a concise and comprehensive introduction to the many ways in which social institutions, practices, and performances reproduce social order in everyday life. The examination begins with an overview of classical and contemporary theoretical frameworks before moving on to consider and evaluate major sources and processes of control, including socialization, schools, religious institutions, mass media, governments, and crime-prevention strategies. Highly insightful and thought-provoking, Social Control gives students the foundation they need to think critically about the role of social control in Canadian society.
