Description

The Ninth Canadian Cancer Research Conference centred on multi-disciplinary approaches to the study of cancer. The sessions were organized around areas of current interest (the environment and cancer, present problems in cancer treatment), current areas of heightened interest (tumor viruses), and areas of hope for the future (chromosome structure and somatic cell genetics, antigenic and functional properties of cell surfaces).

The Canadian Cancer Research Conferences, sponsored by the National Cancer Institute of Canada, focus on multi-disciplinary approaches to the study of cancer and serve as an international forum for the presentation and discussion of new research into the problem of cancer. This collection of twelve stimulating and informative papers from the tenth conference is devoted to discussions of endogenous viruses, environmental carcinogens, tumor immunology, and chemotherapy. It should be not only valuable to the expert but within the grasp of the novice.

Editorial Reviews

'The articles in the book are concise and informative. Most sections are illustrated, and the extensive reference lists following most of the papers could be extremely useful for further research.'

The Cancer Bulletin

'The present report of the 1971 Proceedings has been published by the University of Toronto Press and meets the very high standards established in previous publications. The Research Conference provides an important opportunity for cross fertilization of ideas among the participating scientists and the report will be equally important for others working in these fields.'
