About the authors
Stephen DesRoches is a landscape and commercial photographer, born and raised in Prince Edward Island. His primary focus revolves around the islands natural landscape. His interest in art began early with traditional painting styles and it was not until after installing his first computer image editing app, that he became interested in creating his art with a camera, trading in his inks, paints and brushes. Paul Zizka is a professional mountain landscape and adventure photographer. His award-winning images have been featured in a wide variety of publications, including Maclean’s, National Geographic Traveller, National Geographic Adventure, Alpinist, Huffington Post, The Guardian, and Canadian Geographic. His client list includes leading national and global brands such as Apple, Dell, Arc’Teryx, lululemon athletica, Panasonic, MEC, and Canon. Paul has published numerous books with RMB, including: Summits and Starlight: The Canadian Rockies; The Canadian Rockies: Rediscovered; Grandeur of the Canadian Rockies; Splendour of the Canadian Rockies; Beauty of the Canadian Rockies; Souvenir of the Canadian Rockies; and Aloft: Canadian Rockies Aerial Photography. Passionate about teaching, Paul is the co-founder of OFFBEAT, a creative community for photographers which offers workshops in far-flung destinations around the globe. Originally from Quebec, Paul now lives in Banff, Alberta.
Dave Brosha has had exhibitions of his work in the Northwest Territories and elsewhere in Canada, United States, United Kingdom, Spain and Germany. His images have appeared in Photo Life, Practical Photography, Canadian Geographic, Maclean’s, The Independent (UK), The Globe and Mail, The Sunday Telegraph, China News, The Guardian, Tehran Times, Montreal Gazette, Outdoor Photographer and many more. Dave has published three books of photography: Northern Light: The Arctic and Subarctic Photography of Dave Brosha, Southern Light: Photography of Antarctica, South Georgia, and the Falkland Islands, and Tones of Grace: 100 Black and White Images From Planet Earth (Fall 2022). He is also the author of a travel memoir, The Art of Misadventure (Fall 2022). In addition to having lived in numerous places throughout northern Canada for much of his life, Dave has travelled extensively throughout the provinces and territories of his native country and numerous countries abroad. He and his family live in St. Ann, Prince Edward Island.
John Sylvester is an internationally published travel, nature and landscape photographer based in Prince Edward Island. He specializes in photographing the people and places of Canada, with an emphasis on the Atlantic region. His work has appeared in Coastal Living, Yankee, Country Gardens, Canadian Gardening, Canadian Living, Canadian Geographic, Outdoor Photography Canada, Readers Digest, UP!, Explore, Saltscapes, Our Canada, Harrowsmith Country Life, TIME, and National Post Business Magazine. He has won many awards for his work including two Travel Media Association of Canada (TMAC) awards and four Northern Lights Awards from the Canadian Tourism. He has published four previous books on P.E.I. including The Little Book of Prince Edward Island and Wild Island: Prince Edward Island’s Hidden Wilderness, both published by Acorn Press.
