Description

This gorgeously illustrated hardcover presents an interpretive survey of British Columbia's architectural heritage recorded by artist Rudi Dangelmaier in a series of watercolours and oil paintings. Trained in Germany, Danglemaier has been documenting pioneer buildings in Saskatchewan and British Columbia since 1929. The buildings portrayed in this book date from the mid 19th to the early 20th century and reflect cultural influences and building techniques indigenous to British Columbia. Dangelmaier's work moves beyond weathered facades and sagging beams, the stuff of conventional architectural art. His paintings exude a sense of place and time.

They capture the spirit of an architecture that is as much a part of a culture as it is a part of the landscape. This is a unique and beautiful testament to the humble genius of BC's folk architects.
