Description

Thought by many to be rare or unprecedented events, avalanches do occur in ?xml:namespace prefix="st1" ns="urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:smarttags" />Newfoundland and Labrador, often with devastating results. This book details how avalanches have affected the people of the province in the last 250 years. Where possible, the words of those present as reported in contemporary accounts are used to describe the incidents, and in a few cases the direct accounts of survivors are used. The stories told are often tragic-over sixty people have been killed in the province by this phenomenon—but all serve as lessons to be learned on the dangers of avalanches.?xml:namespace prefix="o" ns="urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:office" />
