Hudson’s Bay Company Adventures: Tales of Canada’s Fur Traders
In this Amazing Stories series title Andra-Warner describes the European craze for the felt hats that drove the market for North American beaver pelts. The book then focuses on the Hudson’s Bay Company history beginning with its inception as the Hudson Bay Project in 1668 and ending in 1870, when it relinquished its land and rights of monopoly to the Dominion of Canada. Well researched though somewhat dry overall the interesting stories and tidbits of information that will add interest to the typical textbook presentation of this time period. The sequencing of information is at times confusing.Caution: Includes some graphic violence, death and the practice of taking Cree women as “bed fellows”.
