Description

With two all-original 20-page stories; one from writer Cullen Bunn with art by Andrea Mutti and the other from Mark London with art by Luisa Russo, Mad Cave’s first ever horror anthology uses the Grimm Fairy Tales as inspiration. In addition to industry stars like Christopher Sebela, Nadia Shammas, and Stephanie Phillips, this haunting anthology will feature over ten terrifying tales including three from the winners of Mad Cave’s 2020 talent search.

About the authors

Cullen Bunn is a comic book writer for Mad Cave Studios (Grimm Tales from the Cave, and A Legacy of Violence), Oni Press (The Sixth Gun, The Damned, and The Tooth) and Marvel Comics (Wolverine, Spider-Man: Season One, and Fear Itself: The Fearless). He also writes short fiction and novels, including the middle reader horror novel, Crooked Hills. “Cullen's short stories and non-fiction have appeared in dozens of magazines, anthologies, and e-zines. His noir/horror comic (and first collaboration with Brian Hurtt), The Damned, was published in 2007 by Oni Press. The follow-up, The Damned: Prodigal Sons, was released in 2008. Since then, Brian and Cullen have teamed up on The Sixth Gun, an ongoing supernatural western, and Cullen has also worked on several other projects for Oni Press, Marvel, and DC.

Andrea Mutti began his career illustrating the superheroes comic 'DNAction' for Xenia Edizioni. He then illustrated horror comics for Fenix. He moved over to Star Comics, where he drew stories with 'Lazarus Ledd' and some episodes of 'Hammer'. Since then he's worked with DC/Vertigo, Marvel, Mad Cave Studios, and IDW.

Stephanie Phillips is an American writer known for comics and graphic novels such as HARLEY QUINN, WONDER WOMAN: EVOLUTION, BATMAN: LEGENDS OF THE DARK KNIGHT, SENSATIONAL WONDER WOMAN, WE ONLY KILL EACH OTHER, BIRDS OF A FEATHER, and THE BUTCHER OF PARIS. Her stories and comics have appeared with DC Comics, AfterShock Comics, Dark Horse, Mad Cave Studios, Oni Press, Image Comics, Heavy Metal, Black Mask Studios, A Wave Blue World, and more. Stephanie is currently the writer for the ongoing Harley Quinn series at DC Comics with artist Riley Rossmo.

Stephanie also holds a PhD in rhetoric and composition and an MA in English from the University of South Florida. She has taught writing and communication courses at the University at Buffalo, the University of South Florida, and the University of Tampa.

Nadia Shammas is a Palestinian-American comics and games writer from Brooklyn, NY now living in Toronto, Canada. She is best known for being the writer and co-creator of SQUIRE (HarperCollins), a Harvey Award winning YA Middle Eastern fantasy graphic novel co-created with Sara Alfageeh. Her other original work includes WHERE BLACK STARS RISE (Tor Nightfire), an adult eldritch horror graphic novella co-created with Marie Enger. She is also known for her work on MS. MARVEL: STRETCHED THIN (Scholastic). Her clients include Marvel, DC Comics, IDW Publishing, First Second, Tor Nightfire, Penguin Random House, and HarperCollins. She is represented by Charlie Olsen at Inkwell Management.

Christopher Sebela is a four-time Eisner-nominated writer, designer, and publisher living in Portland, Oregon. He's the co-creator of Crowded, Dead Dudes, Test, Heartthrob, and Shanghai Red, among others. He puts out his own unpublishable work via a tiny publishing empire called Two Headed Press. Currently he's roommates with the best dog in the world and is thinking about moving onto a boat someday.

Anthony Cleveland began writing comics after departing from his position as County Coroner Deputy to pursue self-publishing. Shortly after, he was selected in Mad Cave Studios’ talent search and went on to write the hit series Show’s End, Stargazer, and a short in Grimm Tales from the Cave, a horror anthology showcasing many of today’s top talents in the genre. Anthony lives in Indiana with his wife and three children.

Malissa White writes comics, reads tarot, watches horror movies, plays the bass, and more from the relative comfort of Los Angeles, CA. Her works include the critically acclaimed comic NIGHTMARE, SOUNDBOX: A Kamikaze Wall Tale, “Vessel”, Grimm Tales from the Cave and more. Malissa is a contributing writer to comic publications Comicon, The Valkryies blog, and Eisner winning Panel by Panel.
Her stories center black and brown women of color in science fiction, fantasy and horror. Sometimes Malissa writes about pain and trauma, getting it wrong and making things right. But mostly, Malissa writes about that certain joy of remembering who the fuck you are.

Cecilia Lo Valvo is a comic book artist from Rome, Lazio. They have done work for Mad Cave Studios and Image comics in the past, including titles such as; Grim Tales From the Cave, Postal, and now Monomyth. Cecilia was also awarded the winner of Top Cow's 2018 Talent Hunt.

Shane Connery Volk is the lead singer and songwriter for Canadian rock band, One Bad Son. Over the last 18 years, Volk’s commanding stage presence and soaring vocal range has captivated fans. OBS has toured with Def Leppard, Judas Priest, and Shinedown, among many others, and landed a coveted spot on the 2019 Rolling Stones tour. In embracing the full spectrum of his art, Volk has also embarked on his career as a professional comic book artist, winning Mad Cave Studios talent search in 2019. His first series is the medieval noir Nottingham with publisher Mad Cave Studios. This five-issue series has become a hit, with each issue receiving multiple printings. The success of Nottingham has brought Volk one step closer to a lifelong aspiration, to draw comics and make music his whole life - more art all the time!

Luca Romano is an italian comics colorist, TTRPG enthusiast, and omnivorous metalhead. Luca is the colorist for Weft, but you may also know him as the colorist for Nottingham, his work with Advent comics, and/or other various indie projects he has worked on. As a young kid Luca spent too much time reading, playing cello and guitar, role playing, and gaming. He hasn’t stopped any of that yet, just added coloring to the list.
