About the authors
Francis Scott (Key) Fitzgerald's (1896-1940) posthumous literary reputation has remained consistently strong despite many highs and lows throughout his brief life. His best-known novel, The Great Gatsby (1925) remains a critical favorite along with Tender is the Night (1934). Most of Fitzgerald's works are loosely based on his life, including his wife Zelda's insanity and his appreciation for personal indulgence and self-destructive excess.

Wilkie Collins (1824–1899) was an English novelist, playwright, and short-story writer best known for his pioneering works The Woman in White and The Moonstone. A master of sensation fiction, which was a precursor to modern-day suspense, Collins also wrote piercingly about the social and domestic issues of the Victorian era.Like his friend and collaborator Charles Dickens, Collins serialized his work. He perfected the form and kept his audience clamoring for the next installment week after week. His innovative narrative structure, intricate plots, and keen grasp of suspense won him international acclaim. One of the most influential writers of his time, Collins has had a lasting impact on the mystery genre and continues to enthrall new fans.
Anthony Trollope was an English novelist of the Victorian era. Among his best-known works is a series of novels collectively known as the Chronicles of Barsetshire, which revolves around the imaginary county of Barsetshire. He also wrote novels on political, social, and gender issues, and other topical matters.

Mark Twain was born Samuel Langhorne Clemens in Missouri in 1835. He is the author of several American classics, including The Adventures of Huckleberry Finn, The Adventures of Tom Sawyer, and A Connecticut Yankee in King Arthur’s Court. Often referred to as “The Father of American Literature,” Twain is hailed as one of the greatest writers of all time. Additionally, he was an avid inventor and entrepreneur, and worked as a riverboat pilot for a few years of his life. In 1910, he passed away in Redding, Connecticut.

Lucy Maud Montgomery had her first poem published at the age of 15 and after completing college she worked for a short time as a journalist before becoming a teacher. In 1908 Anne of Green Gables was published to huge acclaim with Anne of Avonlea coming soon after. Many successful novels followed but by late 1930s, due to personal troubles, illness and depression, she stopped writing. Lucy Maud Montgomery died in 1942 and was buried on her beloved Prince Edward Island.

He is the author of two books about music and served as editor and publisher of Cornell Alumni Magazine for fourteen years.
Jessica Bradley, Curator of Contemporary Art at the Art Gallery of Ontario and formerly Associate Curator of Contemporary Art at the National Gallery of Canada, Ottawa, has curated numerous exhibitions including a number of projects with Betty Goodwin.
