Description
Quirky record store owner Jackson Hill doesn't know it, but his routine life in Saskatoon is about to take a bumpy ride. When his father dies unexpectedly, Jackson heads down the highway to his hometown in southern Saskatchewan. He knows the funeral will be rough, but he doesn't expect to meet a handsome stranger along the way or to face-off with his brother about dark issues of the past. A humorous tale of one man's fascination with rock 'n' roll, Dead Rock Stars is a stirring account of sibling rivalry, acts of forgiveness, and growing up gay on the Canadian Prairies.
About the authors
Wes Funk's first novel Dead Rock Stars was short-listed in the Saskatchewan Book Awards. Currently in its third printing, the book has also now been incorporated into both high school and university curricula.
A love of the prairie lifestyle, a strong belief in diversity, and a passion for music are all strong themes in Wes's books. Wes is also the host of the Saskatchewan weekly tv program, Lit Happens. Wes lives with his partner and pets in their riverside Saskatoon home.
Kevin Hastings was drawn to and surrounded by art from a tender age, and has found that pencil, charcoal and paper have consistently been his best method of artistic expression. Using nothing more than the delicate blend of light and shadow across the surface of a page, Kevin converses in the language of art--the stories and emotions that bind people together through appreciation of the visual and aesthetic. Born of Wes Funk's literary talent and Kevin's visual art, a partnership was formed to create Dead Rock Stars, the illustrated edition. Kevin feels exceptionally blessed by the love and support of family and friends, and holds enormous respect, admiration, and gratitude for all the other artists, and patrons of the arts who have made living his dream a reality.
