Description
Charles Dickens's A Christmas Carol is one of the most enduring holiday stories ever written. Inspired by this masterpiece, Lucie Papineau's text and St?phane Poulin's art make for a striking new interpretation. Barton, a very spoiled and snobbish young pig, hates Christmas. The smell of freshly baked gingerbread, the sound of the homeless orphans' joyful caroling outside his door, the stars shining atop Christmas trees -- Barton hates it all. Sulking in his mansion on the hill, Barton hoards his many toys and counts the hours until Christmas is over. But as he lies awake on Christmas eve, Barton receives an unexpected visitor who shows him his life -- past, present and future -- in a magical new light.
About the authors
Lucie Papineau is a prize-winning author from Québec who has written over 60 books … with her pet parrot sitting on her shoulder to inspire her! Stéphane Poulin is a Canadian children’s book author and illustrator. In 1984, as he was completing his studies in graphic arts at College Ahuntsic, he won first prize for children’s illustration in the Communication-Jeunesse contest. His numerous awards include the Canadian Council, the Elizabeth Cleaver Award, and The Boston Globe Award of Excellence. Stéphane still resides in Montreal, where he divides his time between illustrating children’s books and pillow fighting with his family.
Editorial Reviews
Poulin’s dark, textured oils evoke Dickensian-era flavor, while the all-animal cast offers new delights.
