Description
Ninety-year-old Mitra has much history behind her. Young Sofija cannot grasp what her great-grandmother Mitra is telling her about life when Mitra was a young girl, growing up in a village back in Yugoslavia. These two are as far apart in their ways of thinking as they are in age.
Inspired by a true story, Baba’s Story encompasses many people and a vast geographic area, revealing differences in culture, time, and situation. Through storytelling, and a little humour, readers will experience the growing bond between Canadian-born Sofija and her great-grandmother, the keeper of Sofija’s family history.
About the author
Mirjana Katic was born in the former Yugoslavia in 1938. Her brother Dusan Vincíc sponsored Mirjana's immigration to Canada in 1958. Mirjana's first novel, Stephen's Long Weekend, explores the importance of human values in the face of today's extravagance and greed. Baba's Story is inspired by her own experiences after moving to Canada. This is her second novel.
