Description
CBC listeners will be familiar with Eileen Comstock's whimsical stories about growing up on the prairies in hard times. Looking past the troubles that came with drought, depression, and tough times, she recalls the good people and happy moments that made survival possible and even enjoyable. She captures the spirit of rural life in the 1930s with humour and warmth, as well as offering an entertaining account of how things used to be.
Tornadoes, ghost stories, hand-me-downs, outhouses, Eaton's catalogues, and barn animals all play a part in her memories. Readers will respond to her unique perspective on the events and experiences of a prairie childhood.
About the author
Eileen Comstock grew up near Cadillac SK, and taught for decades in rural schools. She lived on the land for over seventy-five years, raising children, farming, and collecting anecdotes. Her childhood dream was to publish a book, a dream that came true twice in her lifetime.
