A Blanket of Butterflies explores the journey of Shinobu, a mysterious stranger who visits Fort Smith, NWT, to retrieve his family’s samurai suit of armor and sword from the museum. When he discovers that his grandfather’s sword has been lost in a poker game to the man they call “Benny the Bank,” he sets out to retrieve it, with the help of a young boy, Sonny, and his grandmother. Together, they face Benny and his men, Torchy, Sfen and the giant they call Flinch. This graphic novel, beautifully illustrated by Scott B. Henderson, explores the grace of family and the power of the Great Mystery. A Blanket of Butterflies is nominated for a 2016 Eisner Award for Best Single Issue/One-Shot.
Richard Van Camp, a proud member of the Dogrib (Tlicho) Nation from Fort Smith, NWT, is the author of the novel The Lesser Blessed (also a feature film), and four collections of short stories, including Night Moves. He has published children’s books and baby books, including Little You. He is also author of the graphic novel Three Feathers (in English, Bush Cree, and Dene).
Scott Henderson has worked as an illustrator for comics, portraiture, and advertising art. He is author/illustrator of the sci-fi/fantasy comic, The Chronicles of Era and has illustrated two comics for the Canadian Air Force’s For Valour series, the bestselling graphic novel series 7 Generations, selected titles from the Tales From Big Spirit series, and the graphic novels, Betty: The Helen Betty Osborne Story and Eisner-award nominee, A Blanket of Butterflies.
