White Pine Award 2020

The White Pine Award™ reading program offers teens of all ages the opportunity to read the best of Canada's recent young adult fiction titles. Red Maple Award 2020

The Red Maple Award™ reading program is offered for the enjoyment of students ages 12 to 13, in Grades 7 and 8. This program includes a Fiction list every year. This program aims to get readers engaging in conversation around the books and encourages them to use critical thinking while reading. This initiative of the Ontario Library Association (OLA) offers ten reading programs to encourage a love of reading in people of all ages.

Yellow Cedar Award 2020

  • Age: 7 to 100
  • Grade: 2 to 17
For the 2020 program year, the Forest of Reading consolidated our two school-aged non-fiction programs, the Silver Birch Non-Fiction Award and the Red Maple Non-Fiction Award, into one award program — the Yellow Cedar Award. It is a curated list of 10 non-fiction titles for grades 5–8. This Award will be given at the annual Festival of Trees in Toronto every May. The nominated titles will be announced with the other school-aged programs in October. The Forest of Reading® is Canada's largest recreational reading program! Silver Birch Fiction Award 2020

  • Age: 8 to 100
  • Grade: 3 to 17
The Silver Birch Award® is meant for readers aged 8 to 12, (Grades 3-6). The Forest of Reading® is Canada's largest recreational reading program! This initiative of the Ontario Library Association (OLA) offers ten reading programs to encourage a love of reading in people of all ages.

Silver Birch Express Award 2020

  • Grade: k to 7
The Silver Birch Express Award is comprised of fiction and non-fiction titles and is geared to reluctant readers and is typically suited for Grades 3 and 4. Blue Spruce Award 2020

  • Grade: p to 5
The Blue Spruce Award™ program brings recently published Canadian children's picture books to children between the ages of 4 and 7 (Junior Kindergarten to Grade 2). For many children, this is their first introduction to the world of books. This program promotes reading for enjoyment and begins to develop a child’s skill in evaluating a picture book based on story, text and pictures.
