About

Lawrence Paul Yuxweluptun

Lawrence Paul Yuxweluptun is a contemporary Salish artist from British Columbia. On a UNESCO Web site, his work is described as "controversial, historical, surreal, political, enlightening, informative and educational." Yuxweluptun can also be horrifying and is often surprisingly humourous. He has sometimes been compared to Salvador Dali, but he might be more like Hieronymus Bosch — absolutely idiosyncratic, yet totally himself. Most of his work is pre-purchased on commission by private collectors from around the world. Some people have actually been known to design homes around a recently commissioned Lawrence Paul Yuxweluptun. The upside of this, at least for Yuxweluptun, is that he seldom faces the financially threatening possibility that his work might never sell. The downside is that his work is not nearly so well known or so well appreciated as it deserves to be. He lives and works in Vancouver.
