Michael Wilkshire

Michael Wilkshire has written extensively and published on the French presence in Newfoundland, with a particular emphasis on 19th-century writings of French visitors to the province and the iconography of the French Shore.A native England, he moved to Newfoundland in 1966 to teach French at Memorial University in St. John's. He earned an MA from Carleton University and a doctorate from the Universit� de Dijon, France, and continued to teach at Memorial until his retirement.His published works include A Gentleman in the Outports: Gobineau and Newfoundland (Ottawa: Carleton University Press, 1993). A Mixed Marriage is Wilkshire's latest contribution to the field.
