Douglas Sobey attended school in Summerside, Prince Edward Island, where he was taught by Elaine Harrison. He studied at Mount Allison University in New Brunswick, received a Ph. D. from the University of Aberdeen in Scotland, and for twenty-five years taught at the University of Ulster.
