Dennis Scott was born in Jamaica in 1939. With Brathwaite, McNeill and Goodison, he was one of the first Caribbean poets to reflect the realities of reggae and Rastafarianism in his poetry. Dennis Scott also won acclaim as a playwright, director, critic, actor and dancer. He was principal of the Jamaica School of Drama and associate professor of directing at Yale University. His poetry collections include Journeys and Ceremonies (1969), Uncle Time (1974), which won the Commonwealth Poetry Prize, Dreadwalk (1982), and Strategies (1989). He died in 1991.
