Yvonne Rumbolt-Jones
Yvonne Jean Rumbolt-Jones spent her life in Labrador. She grew up in the isolated Indigenous community of Mary’s Harbour in Canada’s North in the 70’s and 80’s. Leaving home for college at 17, she graduated as a journalist and took up writing for the Robinson Blackmore chain of weekly papers and later the evening Telegram, Newfoundland's only daily newspaper. Jones has been mayor of her local community, an MHA for 17, and in 2013 became the first MP elected under Justin Trudeau’s leadership of the Liberal party of Canada. In total, Rumbolt-Jones has won 9 elections and is the longest serving woman from Newfoundland in both provincial and federal politics.
