About

Sharon J. Proctor

Sharon J. Proctor became a full-time science and technology writer in 1991 following a 23-year career as the head of the Vancouver Aquarium's education and interpretation department, where she wrote and edited the publication Waters, and edited and produced a popular booklet, Vancouver's Old Streams. She holds a PhD in biology from Stanford University, and has published many articles in aquarium publications and science and technology newsletters and magazines. Her parents encouraged her lifelong curiosity about life both past and present, and through travels with them, her interest in people and history was fuelled. Now semi-retired, she is able to more fully explore her fascination with history and historical research. An active member of the Friends of the North Vancouver Museum & Archives Society, she enjoys interviewing seniors who have grown up in North Vancouver, talking to local historians and reading books on local history. Her special interest is the human aspect of history - the personal lives and achievements that defined life in earlier times. Sharon writes and edits the society's quarterly history publication, Express.
