Sumach Press's The Secret Wish of Nannerl Mozart is Barbara Nickel's first young adult fiction novel, and was shortlisted for the Geoffrey Bilson Award for Historical Fiction, the Mr. Christie Award and the Red Cedar Award.Her most recent novel for children, Hannah Waters and the Daughter of Johann Sebastian Bach, was a finalist for the Governor General's Literary Award, a winner of the 2006 Sheila A. Egoff Children's Literature Prize (B.C. Book Prizes), and was chosen as a Canadian Library Association Honour Book of the Year. It is currently shortlisted for several Young Readers' Choice Awards, including Saskatchewan, Manitoba, Alberta, and the B.C. Chocolate Lily Award.Barbara has also written a poetry collection for children, From the Top of a Grain Elevator, and is an award-winning author of fiction, non-fiction, and poetry for adults; her first collection of poetry, The Gladys Elegies, won the Pat Lowther Award for the best book of poetry by a woman in Canada. Her second collection, Domain, was released in April, 2007. Her poetry has been widely anthologized, most recently in The New Canon: An Anthology of Canadian Poetry. She lives in Yarrow, B.C.
