Gary Hyland was born in Moose Jaw, Saskatchewan, where he taught high school English and still resides. He was a founder of Coteau Books, Sage Hill Writing Experience, ArtSchool Saskatchewan, Moose Jaw Arts in Motion and the Saskatchewan Festival of Words, of which he is the artistic coordinator.
