Dr. CATHIE HICKSON is a highly-respected geologist and volcanologist. As an undergraduate student, she was among those who were on Mount St. Helens the day it erupted in 1980 and lived to tell the tale. Today, Dr. Hickson is a senior research scientist with the Geological Survey of Canada in Vancouver. She is internationally recognized for her contributions to volcanology, especially in the areas of risk assessment and hazard mitigation.
