James Berry was born in Jamaica in 1924 and has lived in Britain since 1948. He is the editor of two important anthologies of Caribbean and Black British poetry, Bluefoot Traveller and News from Babylon. His own poetry collections include Fractured Circles, Chain of Days, When I Dance and Hot Earth Cold Earth (Bloodaxe, 1995).
