Description
The wildly entertaining, deeply satisfying finale to Ezekiel Boone's near-apocalyptic monster-horror series.
After a long-dormant species of carnivorous spiders hatches and overruns the globe, tens of millions of people have been killed and eaten, or worse...and US president Stephanie Pilgrim has had to order nuclear strikes on major American cities, roads and infrastructure to try to give the survivors a fighting chance. She and her close advisers, along with spider expert Melanie Guyer and her team of scientists, have retreated to a US Navy aircraft carrier off the East Coast to plot their next move when a mutiny breaks out that pits military men looking for a final solution against the president and her allies, who don't think that blowing everything up is the right way to go. Pilgrim and her people escape to the one spider-free zone they're certain of, setting up a White House in Manhattan. But how can they survive with the odds so stacked against them?
Still, they have no choice but to try...rallying the unlikeliest set of spider fighters on whom the fate of humanity rests.
About the author
Contributor Notes
EZEKIEL BOONE was born in Canada but lives in Ithaca, New York, with his wife and children. The Hatching was Zeke's first thriller and the first book in the series, followed by Skitter in 2017 ("a globe-hopping, seriously creepy read" according to Publishers Weekly). The Hatching series has sold in twelve countries and nine languages, and has been optioned for the screen. When not writing thrillers, Zeke writes acclaimed literary fiction under a different name. Along with a healthy respect for spiders, Zeke has two poorly behaved dogs and enjoys the outdoors.
Editorial Reviews
“Following directly on the heels of Skitter (2017), Boone brings his excellent spider-apocalypse thriller to an exciting conclusion. . . . The entire series is one to hand to fans of all high-action thrillers, especially for those with a speculative frame by Mira Grant, Jonathan Maberry, and Ben H. Winters. In a landscape where the adventure thriller seems to be dragging, it is clear all we needed were some spiders to revive it.” —Booklist (starred review)
Praise for THE HATCHING series:
“Guaranteed to do what Jaws did to millions of people.” —Suspense Magazine
“You know those people who claim spiders are more afraid of us than we are of them? When it comes to The Hatching, they lied. Great gory fun—and creepy, in every sense of the word.” —John Connolly, #1 internationally bestselling author of A Time of Torment
“The Hatching takes an impressively terrible doomsday scenario and adds spiders, making it one of the creepiest books of all time.” —Tor.com
“It’s an original plot, with a horrifying premise guaranteed to entertain and shock the reader. . . . The Hatching is a page-turner.” —New York Journal of Books
“The Hatching is a hair-raising thriller that reads like the lovechild of Independence Day and World War Z, but is creepier than both.”—The Real Book Spy
“It’s been too long since someone reminded us that spiders are not just to be feared, but also may well spell doom for mankind. Fortunately, Ezekiel Boone has upped the ante on arachnophobia. This is a fresh take on classic horror, thoroughly enjoyable and guaranteed to leave your skin crawling.” —Michael Koryta, New York Times bestselling author of Those Who Wish Me Dead
“Prepare to be terrified. . . . Hair-raising.” —Parade
“Peter Benchley (with an assist from Spielberg) scared everyoneout of the water with Jaws. Hitchcock showed us how terrifying birds can be. Michael Crichton’s Congo went overboard on gorillas. . . . Add Boone to the list. He has given everyone more reason to fear spiders.” —Men Reading Books
“Globe-hopping, seriously creepy read.” —Publishers Weekly
“Building on the success of The Hatching, Ezekiel Boone’s Skitter is scary-good fun that sets the stage for at least one more epic showdown between mankind and the terrifying eight-legged beasts hell-bent on destroying them. If you’re not already reading this series, it’s time to start!” —The Real Book Spy
“The mark of a good series for me is that I’m ready for the next book as soon as I finish the current one, and sometimes even before I’m finished. As soon as I finished the last page of Skitter, I hopped on Goodreads to see if book three had been listed yet.” —Michael Patrick Hicks Reviews
