Description

When Willy's friend Sid comes to visit, he brings Willy a surprise—a new pup! Willy's new pup is strong and fast, but he needs a lot of training before he can become the new lead dog. When Willy finally decides his new pup is ready for his first hunting trip, something happens that puts the dog's strength and bravery to the test. Based on true events, this story from Labrador shows the powerful bond between a dog team driver and his lead dog.

Editorial Reviews

Sherry Blake is an Inuit writer who wants to share the rich history and culture of her people. Willy's New Pup brings together people, land, and animals in a traditional way, inspired by stories Blake's father told her about his upbringing. Blake recognizes the importance of people knowing where they have come from, whether Indigenous or non-Indigenous, and keeping their family history a part of who they are today. Indigenous People have always had a deep connection with the land, and this book about relationships and loyalty is a reminder of how animals, like the lead sled dog, can truly be a human’s best friend. It's a story that delivers a satisfying and heartwarming ending that everyone can appreciate.
