Description

Here is the story of a pioneer educator whose life encompassed service to medicine in Minnesota (1895-1913) and to the building of the University of British Columbia (1913-1918). His education at the University of Manitoba and at Cambridge University prepared him to develop the finest State medical school up to his time and, on proceeding to Vancouver, one of the world's great universities in an incomparable campus setting. The struggles against ill health, orthodoxy in education, the first World War, and resistance in high places are recounted in this volume. The university which he founded eventually came into its own, and remains a monument to the unquenchable fire of a great man with imagination. This slim volume records for Dr. Frank Westbrook's successors the role that he played in developing a great Canadian province.
