Description
Five artists use a wide range of photographic practices to investigate the social histories of land, architecture and institutions. On the occasion of the 50th anniversary of the the Oshawa Ontario-based gallery, each artist has created a project that grapples with the shifting nature of the city’s social, economic and technological fabric. Drawing from accounts that range from its history as a site of Indigenous occupation to the dominance of the 20th century auto industry, and from explorations of family archives to representations of institutional tech hubs, the works create narratives that offer diverse views of a once-rural community continually transformed by technology. The works provide an intriguing historical overview of the city for residents and visitors alike. Participating artists: Lise Beaudry, Michèle Pearson Clarke, Martie Giefert, Morris Lum and Jeff Thomas.
