Women have been instrumental in shaping the peace movement in Canada for decades. In this wide-ranging and unique collection, 37 women activists and authors document and analyze the historical and current events of the movement from the early part of this century to the present.
The issues raised by these historical, documentary, theoretical, cultural, and creative writings express the diverse strategies of women who work for peace and social justice. These women eloquently imagine, think, and act for a more peaceful world. At the same time they claim the peace movement has been substantially influenced by feminism.

Born in Brandon, Manitoba, Janice Williamson grew up in Pickering, Ontario and earned her PhD from York University. Her published works include Tell Tale Signs: fictions(Turnstone press, 1991), several chapbooks including, Altitude X 2(disOrientation Press, 1992), :a boy named (arsonist auntie, 1996) -winner of the bpNichol Chapbook Award, and Crybaby! (NeWest Press, 1998).

Deborah Gorham taught History and Women's Studies at Carleton University for forty years, including setting up, planning and teaching the first women’s history course at the university – one of the first such courses in North America. She is the author of Vera Brittain: A Feminist Life, and others. Deborah lives in Ottawa.
