The Unmaking
In this second book of the fantasy series “The Last Days of Tian Di,” those who read and enjoyed Book One will recognize many familiar characters and places. There are the Mancers, the Triumvirate, the Xia Sorceress, faeries, dragons, Nell and Charlie. We return to Di Shang and Tian Xia, the city of Kalla, and the island of Holburg. We meet new creatures as well: womi, and harrowghasters.Eliza has returned to the Mancer Citadel to continue studying magic. She has left her mother and father with the Sorma people in the desert. Eliza’s mother Rea must recover from her long imprisonment with the Xia Sorceress, who drained Rea’s power.
Eliza is doing better with her education because her magical powers are awake. Now and then, she and Charlie cross secretly to Tian Xia, so that Eliza can also learn potion making, weapons forging and other skills from the witch, Swarn. While they are on one trip into the other world, Nia, the Xia Sorceress, escapes her Arctic prison. She turns the Mancers to stone and sends a monster to ravage the land and kill Eliza’s mother. Flying on a dragon, with several other dragons along, Eliza pursues the monster for a while. She discovers that even dragons can’t destroy it.
While Eliza does what she can to protect the people of Di Shang, Nell tries to save Charlie, who was wounded in a fight with the evil sorceress. Nell persuades the police chief of her home island of Holburg to take them in a helicopter and make the crossing to Tian Xia. Nell hopes to get Charlie to the healing cave, as well as to warn the witch, Swarn about Nia’s escape. But the evil sorceress has been in Tian Xia, too, and nothing is as it was.
