About the author

Joseph Martin, MD, PhD, Dean of the Faculty of Medicine, Harvard University, is the author and co-author of more than three hundred scientific articles and reviews, and is one of the editors of "Harrison's Principles of Internal Medicine", a widely-used medical textbbok. He has also served on the editorial boards of the 'New England Journal of Medicine', 'Annals of Neurology', and 'Science'.Dr.Martin is a Fellow of the American Academy of Arts and Sciences, and a member of the American Association of Physicians and the American Neurological Association, serving the latter as President in 1989. He was awarded the AAMC Abraham Flexner Award in 1999.
