Richard Gould anticipait avec plaisir sa retraite à passer au moins une partie de son temps dans la maison ancestrale qu’il avait rénovée dans un village tranquille de l’Ontario et plus particulièrement à son projet principal : rendre ses lettres de noblesse aux ruines d’un moulin situé au bord d’une rivière. Inexorablement, Richard est entraîné plus profondément dans une histoire dangereuse culminant en une rencontre meurtrière près de la ville historique de Heidelberg.
