Description
Ray Mead was a member of the abstract painters group Painters Eleven, 1953 to 1960. His work can be compared to that of Jack Bush, Guido Molinari and Yves Gaucher. His work occurs in a series, sometimes extending over many years. A reocurring subject in his paintings is a structure - a pair of doors which "open" both ways. Another of his favorite images is a garden. Colour is the way he controls the surface. ...he underpaints, adding layers for subtle tones. A single colour, pure and undiluted; "It will rule the painting."
