Description
On Threshold of Magic by Barry Brodie is an anthology of work situated around the author's journey creating a play about the life and legacy of Tom Thomson. The play, Threshold of Magic (also included in the book), explores Thomson's legacy and inner journey as he meets the afterlife. Through witty journals and visually rich poetry, Brodie takes the reader through the drama, humour, and tender struggles of the creative journey to honour one of Canada's greatest artists.
About the author
Barry Brodie is an accomplished writer, director, and actor. He teaches a course on the creative process at the University of Windsor, and is a principal of SHO Art, Spirit & Performance.
Brodie began writing in prep school where he wrote his first one—act play. In university he wrote and produced three musical comedies, and his MA thesis was a play about St. Theresa of Avila. From the mid—1980s until 2004 he collaborated with Canadian poet—philosopher Kenneth G. Mills in adapting his lectures and poetry to the stage.
In November 2015, his provocative one—man production Threshold of Magic : The Death and Life of Tom Thomson hit the Canadian stage. His latest book, Tom Thomson : On the Threshold of Magic, will include the complete play along with additional material offering insight into the creative journeys of both the playwright and this iconic Canadian painter. The book is set for publication in April of 2017 for Canada 150.
