Description
With works by Picasso, Jasper Johns, Frank Stella, Plaul Klee, Edvard Munch, Rodin, Degas, Gauguin, and Delacroix, the MacKenzie Art Gallery and the University of Regina President's Art Collection are connected to the world of art at its highest expression.
Built upon an impressive collection of paintings and drawing of the Italian Renaissance, and antiquities of Asia and the Middle East, the galleries were established by the idiosyncratic, but brilliant, Norman MacKenzie, who wanted his beloved city of Regina to share in his passion.
Today these galleries also have extensive Canadian collections that showcase the works of A.Y. Jackson, Joyce Wieland, Harold Town, Jeff Wall, Dorothy Knowles, Greg Curnoe, Michael Snow, Mary Pitseolak, General Idea, the Regina Five, and thousands more. Their paintings, sculptures, photographs, and prints inspire awe and express both a local idiom and global currents in artistic representation.
On the 60th anniversary of their founding, the galleries are pleased to open their vaults to reveal the gems of a city's art collection.
