About the authors

Dr. Dave Williams is an astronaut, aquanaut, jet pilot, ER doctor, scientist, and CEO. The former Director of Space & Life Sciences at NASA, he has flown to space twice, once on the space shuttle Columbia and once on Endeavor, logging over thirteen million kilometres in space and over seventeen hours of spacewalks. He has lived and worked on the world’s only undersea research habitat and is the recipient of five honourary degrees, the Order of Canada, and the Order of Ontario. BOB MCKENZIE is known to Canadians simply as TSNs Hockey Insider. McKenzie provides insight and commentary as an analyst for TSNs national NHL coverage, files updates and breaking news for TSN's SportsCentre, and writes his popular Hockey Insider feature on TSN.ca. He also appears regularly on radio in all major hockey markets in Canada, and on satellite radio across North America on shows such as This Week in the NHL and others.

McKenzie has been covering hockey for the past 26 years and is one of the most respected analysts in the business. In 2008, he was selected by The Hockey News as one of hockeys 100 most powerful and influential people.

McKenzie joined TSN in the late 1980s as an analyst on SportsCentre and Molson That's Hockey and has been a fixture on the network ever since. Prior to joining TSN, McKenzie was the editor-in-chief of The Hockey News for nine years and a hockey columnist for the Toronto Star for six years.

Mark Abley was born in Leamington Spa, England, in 1955. From age six to twenty he lived in Lethbridge and Saskatoon. After winning a Bachelor of Arts degree from the University of Saskatchewan, he went to Oxford on a Rhodes scholarship and received his Master of Arts degree in English Language and Literature. He and his wife live in Montreal.

For the past seven years, Mark Abley has been a contributing editor to Macleans's and a regular writer for Saturday Night, CBC Radio's "Ideas" and The Times Literary Supplement. He has also written for the Globe and Mail, Canadian Literature, The Listener, and the New Statesman.

Anna Porter was born in Budapest, Hungary, during the Second World War and escaped with her mother at the end of the 1956 revolution to New Zealand, where she graduated with an MA from Christchurch University. Like so many young Kiwis, after graduation she travelled to London, England, where she had her first taste of publishing. In 1968, she arrived in Canada, and was soon swept up in the cultural explosion of the 1970s. At McClelland & Stewart, run by the flamboyant Jack McClelland, she quickly found herself at the heart of Canadian publishing. In 1982, she founded Key Porter Books and published such national figures as Farley Mowat, Jean Chrétien, Conrad Black, and Allan Fotheringham. She went on to write both fiction and nonfiction works, including Kasztner’s Train, which won the Writers’ Trust Nonfiction Prize and the Jewish Book Award, The Ghosts of Europe, which won the Shaughnessey Cohen Prize for Political Writing, and has published four mystery novels. She is an Officer of the Order of Canada and a recipient of the Order of Ontario. She lives in Toronto with her husband, Julian Porter. Visit her at AnnaPorter.ca.

Jay Triano is head coach of the NBA's Toronto Raptors. He has been assistant coach of the USA-B Select Team, head coach at the Nike Skills Academy, and coach at the prestigious Euro Camp in Treviso, Italy. Triano played for the Canadian national team for eleven years and was head coach of the 2000 Canadian Olympic team. A member of the Canadian Basketball and Olympic halls of fame, Triano has also worked as a basketball analyst for TSN and as a TV broadcaster for the Olympic Games. Triano lives in Toronto, ON, and Vancouver, BC.
