The Calgary Project documents a vibrant and diverse snapshot of the city’s visual and literary arts, while celebrating the 2-year term of our inaugural Poet Laureate, Kris Demeanor.

The selections include work by nationally (and internationally) prominent poets such as Sheri-D Wilson, Christian Bök, Micheline Maylor, Fred Wah, Anne Burke, and Tom Wayman, and artists such as Jeff de Boer, George Webber, Mandi Stobo and Tina Martel, as well as pieces by newer and younger writers and artists.

Calgary-born Kris Demeanor is a songwriter and actor, a musician and poet who writes and sings about the funny, dark, absurd, maddening, and the joyful for people who like to think, dance, laugh, cry and party. Kris has worked for over twenty years in Calgary schools, facilitating song writing and poetry workshops. He works with Calgary youth to encourage their literary and artistic excellence. And, he is Calgary’s inaugural Poet Laureate, and co-founder of the RE:act Collective. Kris has put out six CDs of original music, a couple of award winning videos, created and performed for the theatre, and toured clubs and folk festivals around Canada, Australia and Europe, both solo and with his Crack Band.

Dymphny Dronyk is a publisher, writer, artist, arts activist, mediator and mother. She is also a communications professional in the oil and gas industry. Past President of the Writers Guild of Alberta, Dymphny is currently the President of the League of Canadian Poets. Dymphny has published articles, fiction and poetry in magazines and newspapers in Europe and in North America since 1984. She has also been a contributor to Alberta Views magazine. Her first volume of poetry Contrary Infatuations, was published by Frontenac House. It was shortlisted for two major literary awards: the Stephan G. Stephansson Award for Poetry (Alberta) and the League of Canadian Poets’ Gerald Lampert Memorial Award (national). In 2009 she published a memoir about Alberta potter Bibi Clement. She is a co-founder of the RE:act Collective.
