Description

Arthur Erickson Architectural Drawings is the first of a series that lists and makes accessible the architectural drawing collections at the Canadian Architectural Archives, the University of Calgary.

Arthur Erickson is one of the small number of Canadian architects to achieve an international reputation. Born in Vancouver in 1924, Erickson early showed interest and ability in the arts. His work first attracted wide public attention in1963 when, in partnership with Geoffrey Massey, he won the limited competition for a new Vancouver area university: Simon Fraser University. His best work demonstrates a sensitivity to setting perhaps fostered by the dramatic land- and sea-scapes of his native British Columbia.

The collection in the Canadian Architectural Archives contains many unknown treasures. The publication of this inventory, which includes an index to the full Erickson holdings, perhaps will promote the exploration, exhibition and publication that those works so richly merit.
