Premiered by the Vancouver Opera in June, 1994, The Architect: An Opera in Two Acts is a taut psychological thriller about deception, personal malaise, and the status quo. The first English-language Canadian opera to have been produced and published not only in the same year but the same century.

About the authors

Tom Cone has written fourteen plays, including Cubistique, Beautiful Tigers, and Mecca by the Balls, which have been featured in numerous productions internationally. His play Herringbone was adapted into a musical and premiered in Chicago, followed by productions in New York, Edinburgh, and London. David McIntyre is the composer of over forty works, including five operas; twenty interdisciplinary projects in dance, theatre, and visual art; and numerous concert works for chamber and orchestral ensembles. His work has been performed throughout Canada and featured at major international festivals in the United States and Europe. He co–founded the music program at Simon Fraser University in 1979.

Tom Cone is the author of numerous plays, operas, and librettos. While playwright-in-residence at the Stratford Festival, he premiered his play Stargazing and his adaptation of Goldoni's Servant of Two Masters. The musical adaptation of his play Herringbone has been produced in Chicago, New York, London, Philadelphia, Edinburgh, Vancouver, and the Hartford Stage starring Joel Grey. Tom is currently working on a new full-length play, Love Lies Bleeding. He lives in Vancouver.
