Description
There was something different about Jessie. She struggled to fit in at school, surrounded by a web of lies and deceit...until she met Ethan.
Based on a true story, the novel “Sway” is about a hearing impaired teenager named Jessie who tries her best to blend in at school. Every day proves to be a test of her resolve when she is constantly plagued by the ruthless pranks of her classmates who are determined to make her life miserable. When a handsome stranger arrives in the nick of time, Jessie wonders if he is too good to be true. Is Ethan’s attention genuine, or will he betray her trust, too?
About the author
Contributor Notes
Growing up surrounded by a seemingly never ending supply of books provided an ample playground for Jennifer Gibson’s imagination. A voracious reader at a young age, she delved into the rich worlds created by talented writers like Madeleine L’Engle, A Wrinkle in Time, which planted the seed of her passion for unique adventures. Encouraged by her creative writing teachers, her love for books blossomed into a full grown talent when she became inspired to create an original series based on her life as hard of hearing teenager.
Excerpt: Sway (by (author) Jennifer Gibson)
I thought I had learned to defend myself, but I was wrong...
It had gotten much colder in the past few weeks, and the snow was getting deeper. I shivered as flakes of snow swirled around me. The sidewalk in front of me was dark as I made my way to the mall that was another block away, my breath visible in the cold air.
The wind wreaked havoc with my hearing aids, blocking out every sound around me. It drove me nuts since it was irritating and uncomfortably loud. I shivered as another blast of cold air slammed me in my face, forcing me to turn my head away from it.
At that moment, I could swear I heard a whistle or someone yelling at me. I looked up into the fierce wind, squinting my eyes but not seeing anyone in front of me. Strange, I thought. Maybe it’s my imagination. I continued on, staggering slightly from the wind.
I heard it again, this time mixed with voices that were loud but didn’t make any sense. Then, I saw their shadow behind me. Gulping back the fear that was rising through my body, I picked up the pace, more afraid than ever. Suddenly, a big shove across my back sent me stumbling awkwardly and I frantically tried to regain my balance. Someone grabbed my shoulder and spun me around.
