About the authors

Contributor Notes

Alan L. Edmunds, Ph.D. (Alberta), is associate professor of special education and educational psychology at the Faculty of Education at Western University. While his current research interests include behaviour and classroom management, learning disabilities, and highly precocious child writers, his longstanding dedication has always been to the betterment of educational practices for teachers of all students. For more than twenty-five years he has examined the educational factors that make significant differences in the lives of students with exceptionalities and in the lives of their teachers and parents. These critical factors are fundamental elements in his pre-service and graduate courses in educational psychology, special education, learning disabilities, giftedness, and cognition and learning. Alan's commitment to exemplary instruction has garnered several university teaching awards, and his research has produced numerous articles and books. He is currently completing a multi-authored text entitled Educational Foundations in Canada.

Gail A. Edmunds, M.Ed., studied psychology at the University of New Brunswick and educational psychology at the University of Alberta and subsequently began a career as an education/research consultant. She has over twenty years of experience working on projects with schools, colleges, universities, governments, and non-profit organizations across the country. Most recently, she has been writing and editing books on various topics within the field of education as well as managing a project on behaviour and classroom management in Ontario schools. Gail has published numerous peer-reviewed articles in the areas of student writing skills, deaf education, family math, and gifted education.
