Description
Many students have difficulty reading geography textbooks. Students often struggle with the organization of the textbooks, the complexity of the information presented, the concept load, and the unfamiliar vocabulary. In addition to problems presented by the texts, students themselves often have limited comprehension and reading skills.
Reading Geography provides texts developed for these students. Each book in the series presents the information students need to be successful, through short, concise readings that are written well below grade level. A consistent format is used to allow students to understand the organizational structure of each lesson and of the unit. Charts, diagrams, and graphic organizers are incorporated to help make complex geography concepts more accessible to students. Each reading also includes an appropriate reading strategy to help student comprehension.
Each lesson includes:
a reading strategy to help students navigate the text a think-aloud that models the reading strategy a brief summary of the key concept a real world connection activity helpful review questions to check for understanding The Teacher's Guide provides just the right amount of easy-to-use grade-level support materials.
