Description

Outworld centres around the story of Tihane Delaron, a space sciences engineer, who, having completed her training, starts her apprenticeship and eventual journey work. The three volumes consider the relationships and interactions, that spring out of the circumstances crew members of a space ship, or outpost, face. These run the gamut from: fears and hauntings of childhood trauma, strange incidents, mysteries, accidents, confrontations, doubts, collaborations and, eventual resolutions. Throughout the three books, the character of an engineer, who happens to be female, is brought to life. So, too, do those of her enemies, colleagues and friends, in an intricate dance of human story-making.

About the author

Contributor Notes

Ruth Tait comes from a diplomatic family. By her twentieth birthday, she realized she had lived in twenty homes, and six countries. She is certain she learned to draw in airport lounges, restaurants, train stations and hotel rooms. Early in life, she understood that the complexity of the world was greater than any single group’s philosophy. Life, in its myriad guises, was the greatest teacher. She considered a career in engineering, but ended up joining a boat-building partnership. Later, she considered a career as a fine-art painter, but ended up using years of observational drawing to work as a storyboard artist. From there it was but a small leap into the storytelling scope of the graphic novel.
