Description
Touching on gender, sexuality, family, pop culture, and history, these pieces range from the hilarious to the poignant, the sexy to the sincere, the truthful to the tongue-in-cheek. Collected by writer and journalist Susan G. Cole from poetry, prose, theatre, and even a graphic novel, the scenes and monologues found in this collection reflect personal, political, and cultural complexities in the Canadian lesbian community. Intended for study or auditions and infinitely readable on its own, OutSpoken includes works by Trey Anthony, Ann-Marie MacDonald, Mariko Tamaki, d'bi.young.anitafrika, Jovette Marchessault, and many more.
About the author
Susan G. Cole is a political and cultural activist, author, and editor. She was instrumental in organizing Nightwood Theatreâ??s 5-Minute Feminist Cabaret in its early years and appeared as both performer and host. Susan has written two books on violence against women, Pornography and the Sex Crisis and Power Surge (both published by Second Story Press), and continues to lecture on the subject. She also has a regular column in the Canadian feminist magazine Herizons and is currently the senior entertainment and books editor at NOW Magazine in Toronto. She lives with her partner Leslie Chudnovsky in Toronto.
