About the author

Father Ed Brophy grew up in St. John’s, which he considers a very fine city with many a good story to tell. He was ordained to the priesthood in 1967, and since that time, he has lived in the outports of Newfoundland. The people there have been very generous, especially with their stories. As he grew up knowing little or nothing about fish or nets, boats or storms, he loved to listen to the stories of these humble heroes, men and women, who had bitten off such a large piece of life and embraced it and lived it so fully. However, he is glad he grew up in St. John’s, and he is grateful for the Brothers who taught him and for the six years he spent studying in Rome. He is truly happy that he has been given the noble profession of the priesthood.
